Inter-library loans (ILLs)

How do you get documents that are unavailable at the library?

Only books, articles and other documents that the library does not own can be borrowed from other libraries, either as a loan or a copy. This procedure is called Inter-library loan and it is a service we provide free of charge for all students and staff members. Please allow at least one week for transport when you order documents. Delivery depends on the library that owns the document and their routines, as well as postal services. The document you request can be checked out at the library we order it from, and this adds to the delivery time.

All ILL requests are reviewed by a library staff member before it is passed on. We kindly ask our patrons to use the ordering system through Bibsys or send us an e-mail when possible. This is to avoid misunderstandings regarding hand written notes an so on at the circulation/reference desk.

 How do I order books?
First: Check if we already own the document by searching the library catalogue, Bibsys Ask.
If you cannot find it in our collection, click "Sources" and remove the ticked box "Høgskolen i Gjøvik" to search the entire (national catalogue) (Bibliotekbasen).

When you found the document you want us to order for you, click "order". You have to give your library ID (underneath the barcode on your student/staff ID card) and your surname.

We can only order documents that we do not own. If the document you want is checked out at our library, we will put you on the waiting list.

Documents that are available in the library cannot be ordered through Bibsys.

How do I order journal articles?

If you have a reference to a journal article, you can find the journal title in Bibsys Ask and click "order". Then you will have to fill out the form with information from your reference; author name, title of the article, year, volume, number, page number before you send the form. Please make sure that you have given us your library ID and surname before you click "send".

How to order documents that cannot be found in Bibsys?

If you need documents that are not registrered in Bibsys, it is important that you give us as much information as you have. A correct reference is vital for quick ordering and delivery. If you want to order journal articles, we need information on title of the journal and the article, author name, year, volume, number and page number.

How do I know when my documents arrive at the library?
We will notify you when your documents arrive. We can contact you on e-mail, text message or mail. Books will be registered in your name once it arrives here. Therefore, the sooner you pick the book up, the longer you can keep it. The document must be picked up within one week.
