Geomatics

Geomatics is a term that refers to a comprehensive treatment of location data (geodata). Landsurveying and satellite positioning can be combined with geographic information (GIS).

Geomatics is related to GEO-related subjects. Items include: digital maps, the Internet, GIS, surveying / GPS, satellite imagery, radar plots, laser scanning, 3D models and environment-monitoring with digital tools related to informasjonsinnhenting, registration, processing and presentation.

Geomatics is important for businesses and for individuals in all societies with large requirements for different types of geographic information. Good examples are transport optimization (cars, planes and boats) show map feature on the internetmaps and the combination of cellular, GPS and the Internet as more and more embedded GIS opportunities, so that we can quickly obtain the information requested.
