Advanced clinical nursing
Master’s degree in advanced clinical nursing is offered as a study programme to authorized nurses who wish to develop their clinical competence, to improve their ability to meet and influence the changes within health services – for the benefit of the patients. The study programme runs over four years, part time.
The study programme will give an advanced competance in nursing, and qualifies for admission to PhD programmes within nursing science. In Gjøvik University College the Master’s degree in Advanced Clinical Nursing offers five majors within nursing:
- AIO (anaesthesia, theatre nurse and intensive care)
- Geriatric care
- Palliative care
- Mental health care
- General care

- Knowledge, learning and development of nursing as a discipline.(5ECTS)
- Basic philosophy within nursing sciences (5ECTS)
- Ethical and juridical responsibility in development work in health services. (5 ECTS)
- Introduction to systematic development work and research (5 ECTS)
- Specialization within the major, medical and nursing subjects. (20 ECTS)
- Clinical nursing science, theories and models of caring and treatment (10ECTS)
- Major theses (10ECTS)
- Ethical philosophy (5ECTS)
- Philosophy of science and evidence based knowledge in nursing practice (5 ECTS)
- Research ethics (5 ECTS)
- Qualitative and Quantitative research methods and designs (15 ECTS)
- Master’s thesis (30 ECTS)
