Network and system administration

Management of computer systems involves getting the network and the computers functioning as expected, so the users will be satisfied. The foundation for this is planning, security, correctly installing and configuring, automation and programming and lastly high degree of service (helpdesk).

Contents of the study

What is being emphasized is that good administration of a computer system comes from a deep understanding of the system. The study will give you an understanding of IT service management, planning of capacity (scalability), troubleshooting, documentation, usability and following up on the organization's IT-strategy/rules/policy. The study stresses solving assignments: programming and scripting; case-studies of existing solutions; planning and designing different types of infrastructure; in addition installing and configuring different services in simulated/virtual environments will be done.

Project work is a widespread way of working and the study ends with a development assignment on a bigger scale, often given by an external company. The university college offers the students very good working conditions with a number of modern laboratories adapted for the needs of the different subjects. You will meet dynamic lecturers in a highly competent technical environment. The computer science collegium is mainly focused on teaching, but employees and students are also involved in research activities managed by the departments professors.

Central subjects in the study are: information security, IT-service management, algorithms, information structures and databases, database administration, computer architecture, operating systems, virtualization, application management, data communication and network security, information and communication technology infrastructures and system administration, and also administration and monitoring of network infrastructures.

Further studies

In addition to creating a solid fundament for a working career the programme is a good starting point for further master studies.
