Amazing progress!

HiG_GbyggetFor five years in a row, the number of applicants with GUC on the top of their list, increases. Since 2005 the number of applicants with GUC as their first priority has increased with 60 per cent. - GUC has disciplines relevant to meet the challenges of society, this increase shows that our students think the same, says Rector Jørn Wroldsen.

The Norwegian Universities and Colleges Admission Service (samordna opptak) just published the results of this years admission to universities and colleges in Norway. GUC has this year an increase of 7 % in the number of first priority applicants, compared to last year (2009). - I am very pleased with the results for GUC, when the general results in Norway show a decrease of applicants to higher education, Wroldsen says.

Increase in applications to Bachelor of Nursing

On a national basis, there are 4, 7% fewer applicants to nursing programmes compared to last year. At GUC on the other hand we see the opposite trend. In total, GUC has an increase of 24 % to Bachelor in Nursing. - There are several reasons for this. For instance, we have for several years now invested in building the most advanced simulation center in the North, with labs for skills training, and full-scale simulation, we have good internships to offer our students. This year we also have admission to our decentralized and part time nursing programmes in Gudbrandsdalen, Valdres and Hadeland in addition to Gjøvik, says Director of Academic Affairs and Research, Gunn Rognstad.

In the field of IT, there is also an increase in the number of applicants to all study programmes at GUC, especially Bachelor in Game Programming, with an increase of 60 %. IT is one of the priority areas at GUC, GUC also has its first PhD in Information Security.

The single study programme that increases the most when it comes to the number of applicants, is Bachelor in Economics and Business Administration, with an increase of 80 %. - There is a constant need for this education in the region, we have had a steady increase of applicants to this programme over the last three years, says Rognstad. The study programme with highest number of applicants in relation to the the number of entry offers, is Bachelor in Media Design, with 89 applicants for 25 places.

- With this increase we will continue to make GUC an ever more robust institution and place to go study, and research and education will get even better conditions in the future, Rector Jørn Wroldsen summarizes.
