Focusing on color

Ivar FarupThis week the Create Conference is held in Gjøvik and at GUC.- Create has created dialogue and networking between different research communities, says Associate Professor Ivar Farup at GUC.

Create is a project funded by the EU, and the project first started in 2007. The goal is to create meeting places for young promising scientists who focus on colors, from many angles. - It has been a focus on colors from all possible angles; technology, color science, photography, architecture, art and design, says Farup.

New projects

The Create Conference in Gjøvik is the final conference of the project. - Now we have evolved the network, and it is natural to continue cooperating by doing research together. Already, we see several research groups making plans for various projects, says Farup.

Colorlab at Gjøvik University College has positioned itself as an important contributor in the field of color science and imaging. Colorlab and seven other institutions of higher education in Europe, have cooperated closely on Create. - Create has been important to Colorlab in relation to our academic reputation and research. In addition, we have evolved our network, Farup stresses.

Colors of architecture and design

Longyearbyen på SvalbardAt the last day of the conference, Professor Grete Smedal from the Art Academy of Bergen talked about a project with color plans for all buildings and installations in Longyearbyen at Svalbard.

The project started in 1982, and evolves with new buildings that are built. -Light is important in Longyearbyen, and it was important to take into account how colors are perceived in different phases. I had to take into account the changing seasons and weather, Smedal stressed.

- We must understand the use of color in new times. Colors inform us about the objects, the quality of the objects, in addition to color decorating the world. Colors change the environment, Smedal concluded.
