You do not have to worry about capital letters when you search. Just use small letters.
The truncation signs in Bibsys Ask are "?" or "*" That means that if you type one of these signs behind all words you have typed in, you will retrieve results for all expantions of the words. For example: data? will give you results for: data, databases etc. Using a truncation sign will save you from having to search several times for the same word, but it also means you will get a larger number of retrieved results. You can combine search terms to make the searches more relevant.
If you want to search for a title or an author, use the default search.
You can write either: surname first name (bond james) or: first name surname (james bond)
If you cannot remember the entire name or if you are not sure on spelling, you can use a truncation sign.
Ex: abrahamsen p
?
abrahamsen
?
abrah
?
If you write more than one word, the system demands that all words are included in the retrieval. The search words are automatically combined with "AND" when you write several words in one box or if you use several boxes. If you write your search terms in different boxes you can set the search to choose "OR" (instead of "AND"). This can be useful when using synonymous search terms.
Remember that the order of the words does not matter.
peer gynt and gynt peer - give the same results
If you have retrieved too many results, you can go back and make a more detailed search by entering more search terms, limit to a particular year or date range, language, or tick the boxes for document type (journals, e-jounals etc.)
