Study Abroad - Step by step
Start your planning early. Check the student handbook for which semester you can go, and search for exchange institutions on the International Office's web page. Please visit us for information and advice.
You will find the application form on the International Office's web page. The application deadline is 15 February (for autumn semester) and 15 September (for spring semester).
Pre-approval of courses
The courses you will take at the host institution must be pre-approved from GUC before you leave. You can find the pre-approval form here . This form should be signed by the study programme director. Please contact them (or the International Coordinator at the faculty) for advice regarding choosing courses.
Check out whether the host institution requires a language test. If you are required to sit an English test, the IELTS and TOEFL tests are usually accepted by our partner institutions. If you are going through our exchange programmes, there is usually no language requirement.
Quota students can get additional funding through Lånekassen. Please ask the International Office for more information regarding this. You may be eligible for additional funding through our Erasmus programmes as well.
Please check if you need a visa for the country you are going to. Apply for a visa through the host country's embassy or consulate as soon as you get a letter of acceptance from the host institution.
Apply for student housing as soon as you get an acceptance letter from the host institution.
You will need insurance when going abroad. Contact the international office for more information regarding insurance.
Check out if you need any vaccinations for the country you are travelling to.
Order your tickets in good time before travelling.
International student ID card
To get student discounts around the world, you will need an international student ID card. Both STA Travel and Kilroy Travels issue ISIC
(International Student Identity Card). This is an internationally recognised student card that can get you discounts for museums, bus passes, restaurants etc.
