Knowledge

The student has knowledge of:  

  • Nurse professions history, its traditions and core values
  • Theoretical perspectives in nursing
  • Ethical theory and ethical principles
  • Humans′ basic needs
  • How aging impact on health, disease and the need for care
  • Models for nursing practice and decision making in nursing
  • Laws, statutes and formal requirements constituting the basis for nursing documentation
  • How patients with a cultural background as opposed to one's own can affect nurse’s assessment of patient data
  • Scientific methods, knowledge conceptions and methods for knowledge development
  • Innovation processes

Skills

The student has skills in:

  • Search and make use of scientific knowledge
  • Perform statutory documentation of nursing
  • Justifies ethical choices when caring for individual patients and their relatives
  • Transferring ethical guidelines for nurses into specific nurse – patients situations

General competence

The student has general competence in:

  • Reflecting on the ethical challenges on the basis of ethical theory
  • Make use of knowledge when dealing with individuals in order to demonstrate respect for their lives and dignity
  • Recognize professional knowledge as the basis for the practice of nursing
  • Are aware of your attitudes, being able to assume the patient's perspective and demonstrate respect for those who need help
  • Understanding aging as a base for a professional approach
