Short description
The curriculum is based on the "National Curriculum Regulations for Nursing Programmes" laid Laid down on 1 July 2004 by the Ministry of Education and Research , with the legal authority of § 46, No 2 in the Universities and Colleges Act No 22 of 12 May 1995.

Undergraduate programme leading to a Bachelor's degree.
Expected learning outcomes
Learning outcome express the competence the candidate is expected to have acquired at the end of the course programme and is described as outcome in the form of knowledge, skills and general competence as described in the National Qualification Framework.
Knowledge:
The candidate
- explains central topics, theories and issues within the discipline of nursing science
- explains relevant knowledge from topics of medicine and natural sciences, and from social sciences
- has knowledge of research and development of nursing
- has knowledge of the welfare state, guidelines for practising the profession and the contributions of nursing to the health- and welfare service
Skills:
The candidate
- performs nursing based on research, experience and professional judgement
- takes care of the patient's basic needs by observing, assessing, planning for, implementing, evaluating and documenting nursing
- identifies risk factors of an individual and an environmental nature, plans and implements health-promoting and preventive actions
- informs, teaches and supervises patients and next-of-kin
- promotes learning processes that contribute to patient safety and trust in the health service
- masters relevant professional tools, techniques, procedures and forms of communication
- is a change focused nurse leader
- cooperates across professional boundaries to create coordinated, holistic and continuous services
General competence:
The candidate
- performs nursing according to professional guidelines, based on an ethical consciousness and critical reflexion
- meets patients and next-of-kin with care, understanding and moral responsibility
- performs holistic nursing for people with different ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds
- takes care of the patient's right to shared decision making and patient participation
- contributes to innovation and innovation processes
- shows ability and will to lifelong learning, performs evidence-based nursing and contributes to quality improvements in nursing and health service
- applies and conveys central professional issues, such as theories, challenges and solutions both in writing and orally
- contributes to highlighting professional and ethical norms in the public debate about health-political issues
The learning outcome is specified in course descriptions and programme plans for the three study units.
Internationalization
Students are offered the possibility to take a part of the programme abroad. The university college has cooperation agreements with universities in Namibia, Australia, USA, Belgium, the Slovak Republic, as well as the Nordic countries.
