Expected learning outcomes

The purpose of the course is for the student to collect data based on the service user’s needs, by help of behavioural analysis, and interacting with practice generate alternatives for solutions of universal design and welfare technology. The student will study conditions and possibilities for innovative solutions in these areas. Train the ability to choose the right solution based on the needs of the service user, and based on ethical, social economic and technological conditions.

Knowledge : The student will be able to:

  • Explain laws and regulations that form the basis for creating a universally designed society
  • Evaluate problems and possibilities related to universal design and the experience of good health
  • Describe how welfare technology can contribute to increasing security, the opportunity for activity and participation in the society both for persons with various disabilities and for the elderly and next-of-kin
  • Analyse how welfare technology can be both economical and profitable

Skills : The student will be able to:

  • Identify and analyse health effects that can be created by a limited degree of accessibility
  • Use knowledge of the process of innovation to develop solutions to the problems that are identified at the practice location
  • Explain the selection criteria for the choice of solution
  • Assess the need for training and adaption for the use of welfare technology
  • Make use of relevant knowledge from previous disciplines in all meetings with persons during the practice period
  • Use occupational therapeutic methods, tools and instruments for mapping and for treatment in cooperation with the service user and other professionals

General competence : The student will be able to:

  • Assess and reflect on different solutions during the practice period and assess these in relation to an ethical, sustainable and a social-economic perspective
  • Understand how universal design and welfare technology, developed in collaboration with others are important measures for the health sector
  • Implement all practice according to the professional ethical guidelines for occupational therapists
  • Show a responsible attitude, show initiative, seek supervision and make use of research and experience from the field

Practice will be assessed by the contact teacher and the daily tutor/main tutor of the practice field

Re-sit examination

Students who are awarded a failing mark for a period of practice, must contact the Study Programme Coordinator in order to agree on how to continue the course.

Coursework Requirements

Approved obligatory attendance during the course. Obligatory attendance is described in detail in the curriculum and in the course schedules. The students are to complete an improvement project during the practice period. The written project report and the oral presentation must have been approved in order for the practice to be passed.

Bachelor in Occupational Therapy at GUC has resource literature. An overview of updated resource literature can be found on the homepages of the university college. Supervision in the choice of literature will be given by the course tutor.
