Expected learning outcomes
The student will achive knowledge of fundamental microprocessor systems, distributed microcontroller systems and digital signal processors. The student will learn methods of developing digital systems with emphasis on the use of programmable logic devices.
Microprocessor/microcontroller part will cover:
- I/O interface
- Distributed Microcontroller systems (LonWorks)
- Buss standards
- Display systems
- Digital signal processors (DSP)
FPGA/VHDL part will cover:
- The structure of digital systems
- State machines
- Programmable logic devices
- FPGA families
- Altera development system Quartus II
- Hardware description in VHDL
- Verification of design
- Programming FPGAs
- Boundary Scan testing
- Security in FPGA system

Each part must be individually approved, and the projects/mandatory exercises must be passed/approved before taking the exam.

Evaluated by internal lecturer. External examiner shall be used periodically.
Ordinary re-sit examination.
The mandatory projects/exercises are valid for one year after they have been accepted.
Exact number will be given at the beginning of the semester.
The plan is to have 2 projects with marks and 3 mandatory exercises.
