Expected learning outcomes

"Superstructure projects" (I-IX) are practical design projects that supplement or develop further topics from the practical design projects in the courses "Typography", "Copy-editing and typography", "Strategic design", "Information architecture" and "Wayfinding systems". The objective is to allow the students to develop as formgivers and at the same time make sure that they establish a broad repertoire of basic solution types for handling a variety of communication problems.

Topic(s)

The "superstructure projects" (I-IX) can deal with topics like conceptual problem solving, exploring typographic form, book design with emphasis on grid systems and the application of advanced font functionality, web design with emphasis on the application of web standards like CSS, corporate identity, packaging design, design of annual reports with integrated information graphics, the development and formgiving of effective and user-friendly paperbased or electronic forms, magazine design, newspaper design, exhibition design, calligraphy and typeface design.

Individual project assignments with formative-iterative assessment. The project supervisors can be members of staff as well as external designers.

Summative assessment at the end of the semester: Passed / failed. The project(s) may then be included in a portfolio for final summative graded assessment (with internal and external examiners) at the end of the third and final year (grades A-F).
