GIS Intro I

Expected learning outcomes

The students will after ended course have knowledge of the basic principles of how the geographical reality can be represented in digital form, and be able to use this knowledge in projects handling local development plans.

Topic(s)

Following parts from GEO1121 GIS Intro are used:

  • Introduction to GIS
  • Projections and Coordinate Systems (Norwegian examples added)
  • Vector data Structure (Including exercises on digitalisation of local development plan)
  • Databases ( including editing of attribute data for local development plans)
  • Visulaisation (including presentation of local development plans, adding background maps from Web, orthophotos and also introducing 3D visualisation)

To be supplemented with relevant standards and overview of software for GIS engineers.
