The aim of this Land Surveying Instruments and Computations course is to enable students to demonstrate that they have acquired the necessary instrumental skills and the theoretical tools to be able to carry out basic land surveying processes with simple quality controls.
Instruments: - Focus is on physical instrumental mechanisms, and quality controls/calibrations: -- Total Stations -- Levels -- Electronic notebooks -- GNSS – with and without electronic notebook - Instrument checking, calibration and documentation - Observing standards Measurment techniques - Levelling - Polar measurement - Polar setting out - Simple satellite surveying by RTK - Setting out for building construction - Setting out for roadworks - Setting out for tunnelling Computations: - Simple manual computation of coordinates and heights -- Directions and angles -- Levelling computations -- Reduction of measurements to the plane surface - Survey computation programs’ introduction and elementary use: -- GIS-LINE -- GEMINI -- WSKTRANS -- Leica Geo-Office - Road alignment computations - Documentation - Computing standards Accuracy: - Theories and practices necessary to be able to follow the topics introduced under Instruments, Techniques and Computations -- Types of error, their recognition, and prevention possibilities -- The mean (average) -- Standard deviation -- Normal distribution -- Combining the estimated errors of independent observations -- Weighting -- Correlation -- Application of Taylor’s Theorem av Taylorrekka -- Brief introduction to simple survey adjustment Additional topics: - Interpretation of technical drawings Movement of digital data between PCs and electronic notebooks
